For generations, the management of our family business has been passed from father to son. This is also the case with Thilo Mühle, who joined the family company newly founded by Hans-Jürgen Mühle in 2000 and was initially responsible for product development for wristwatches. The Teutonia is one of the first watches for which Thilo Mühle is responsible. Over 2,500 watches of this legendary Mühle watch with a big date were sold in a very short time before it was taken off the market in autumn 2002.
From the original Teutonia, a whole watch family with a richly branched family tree developed in the following years. In 2005 the Teutonia II Chronograph, the Teutonia II Chronometer and the Teutonia II Medium were added. The model with the big date – originally simply called “Teutonia” – was then manufactured again as the Teutonia II Großdatum. The dials of all family members are silver-plated and engine-turned, that means they have a fine relief-like pattern that is embossed with a stamp. This shapes the tasteful and reserved elegance of Teutonia to this day.
The further development of the first Teutonia at that time did not only refer to the expansion to a watch family with a total of four models. Because since then the Teutonia II Chronometer and Teutonia II Chronograph have been equipped with our self-developed woodpecker neck fine regulation.
Other models followed at regular intervals. A major innovation was, for example, the Teutonia II Kleine Sekunde with a midnight blue dial in 2015 or the current Teutonia IV Mondphase. Compared to the Teutonia II, we have designed the Teutonia IV much more straightforward. It has a beveled roof bezel instead of the stepped B-bezel and a very clean, finely grained dial instead of the luxurious guilloché.
Each Teutonia case has an elaborately crafted middle section with volute-shaped horns, i.e. horns curled up at the lug. The middle part of the high-quality case has a vertical cut that is applied by hand – while the tops of the volute-shaped horns are finely polished. Another characteristic of the Teutonia are the dials with their finely polished hour indices that are placed on the dial by hand.
The Teutonia is a sporty, elegant business watch aund our symbol for functional luxury. Whether in night blue or silver: The dials are decorated with a fine ray cut or elaborate guilloché. Radiant cut and guilloché are not only luxurious decorations, they also structure the dial and make it particularly clear.
The Teutonia is now not only a timeless classic in the Mühle collection, but also our most successful watch family – and at the same time the unmistakable flagship of the Mühle-Glashütte manufactury.
