From September to December 2024, we will be represented with a special Mühle exhibition in the foyer of the German Watch Museum Glashütte. The occasion is our anniversary year 2024, in which we are not only celebrating 30 years of “Nautical Instruments Mühle-Glashütte”, but also the 155th anniversary of the first company foundation by Robert Mühle.
Mühle-Glashütte stands on the foundations of a long tradition. In 1994, our family business was re-established in its present form. It owes its name to the manufacture of high-precision marine chronometers and its worldwide reputation to the production of high-quality mechanical wristwatches.
However, our roots go back to 1869: thanks to the founding of a “precision engineering workshop” in which Robert Mühle manufactured precise measuring instruments for the Glashütte watch manufacturers. This has shaped us to this day. That is why our wristwatches are time-measuring instruments that follow our tradition of precise measurement and the nautical virtues of good readability, robustness and precision. The current Mühle exhibition in the foyer of the German Watch Museum Glashütte traces this 155-year tradition.
1869 marks the beginning of a new era for our family. Even though our ancestors had made a name for themselves as music directors, priests and barons in the region around Glashütte: Robert Mühle was left to steer the fortunes of our family in a direction that is still valid today. In 1869, he founded his own company in Glashütte and started work there on April 22.
After German reunification, Hans-Jürgen Mühle (*1941) takes the decisive step towards the type of measuring instruments that the family manufactures today. In 1994, he founded “Mühle-Glashütte GmbH nautische Instrumente und Feinmechanik”. Here he initially manufactures marine chronometers and ship’s clocks, and two years later the first wristwatches are introduced.
In our anniversary year, we are not only celebrating the 30th anniversary of Mühle-Glashütte, but also the official entry of the 6th generation into the management level of the company.
Together, Thilo, Fanny and Dustin Mühle will shape the future of the family business from February 2024: Fanny will be responsible for sales and customer service, Dustin will lead the production department and manage the manufactory – while Thilo Mühle will continue to bear the main responsibility for the company.
In the anniversary year 2024, Mühle-Glashütte celebrates the 30th anniversary of the family business in its current form. This is appropriately expressed in the new “Edition 1994”. It consists of selected Mühle models that will be presented in the anniversary year. In keeping with the 155-year tradition as an entrepreneur in Glashütte, the various wristwatch models are limited to 155 pieces.
